Rune Bo Jakobsen

"Art should inspire and awaken curiosity. It is not about dictating meaning, but rather offering an open-ended dialogue that encourages viewers to explore their own interpretations." Rune Bo Jakobsen

Rune Bo Jakobsen is a Danish-Maltese artist and architect known for his bold use of colour, expressive compositions and dynamic sculptures. His work spans multiple disciplines, from painting and sculpture to large-scale public art installations. Jakobsen studied at the Istituto Statale d’Arte di Orvieto & Monopoli in Italy before earning a Master's in Architecture in Denmark, a foundation that continues to influence his approach to spatial design and artistic expression.

Jakobsen’s work often explores themes of growth, transformation, childhood, fertility and the natural world. His public sculptures, including Travelling Popcorn and Olive Twist, reflect his fascination with organic movement and urban storytelling. His paintings, meanwhile, are infused with an energetic interplay of light and colour, revealing the hidden vibrancy of shadows and emotions embedded within spaces.

His recent solo exhibition, Cupola, held at The Phoenicia in Malta, reimagined architectural heritage through a contemporary lens, using bold, textured brushstrokes to capture Malta’s iconic structures. Through his art, Jakobsen invites viewers to engage in a sensory dialogue, encouraging them to experience the world with renewed awareness and imagination.
