In Tal-Mirakli Chapel, the artist depicts Tal-Mirakli, a 17th-century chapel nestled in the outskirts of Lija, Malta. The chapel became known as 'the miraculous' because in 1743 a painting of the Madonna inside the chapel was said to have ‘shed a tear’. Shortly afterwards a huge earthquake hit the island, during which not a singe person died. The events were perceived to be connected and a miracle deemed to have taken place.
