Allura Art welcomes artist Vania Goshe
Allura is very pleased to announce the latest artist to join the Allura Art gallery.
Meet Vania Goshe
Vania Goshe first worked with Allura in 2018, as one of the 50 local artists who participated in its open art studio event, The Trail, part of Valletta - European Captial of Culture.
Vania left her native Bulgaria when she fell in love with her Maltese husband. She relocated to Malta, where they now live with their eleven year old daughter.
Artistically it was a fertile and encouraging space, so she left her career in cinema to pursue fine art.
“Malta made me an artist.” Vania Goshe
Vania speaks fondly of Malta, citing the sunlight and scenery as her primary inspiration.
Vania studied at the New Bulgarian University in Sofia. She is frequently commissioned and has exhibited extensively in both Malta and Bulgaria.
“Everywhere is a mess because of me... home, the office, the studio - everywhere is an atelier.”
Vania does not let location get in the way of her art, she simply adapts. “In the studio I use oils, at home, acrylics, and in the office it’s inks, pastels or watercolours.” The versatile expressionist feeds off spontaneity. “I never know what I am going to paint... I’m an old-fashioned artist waiting for the muse.”
With her joyous, celebratory canvases Goshe seeks to uplift her viewers and provide an escape. Like the Impressionists she so admires, Goshe uses her favourite tool, the palette knife, to apply daubs, flecks and patches of pure, un-mixed colour, like confetti or laughter in the air.
Malta is renowned for its rich history and the magnificent architecture of its ancient cities. Across the harbour depicts the view across the Grand Harbour facing the famous Three Cities with their buildings glowing brightly in the warm Mediterranean sun.
Spinola captures the bright sunlight and clear blue waters of the picturesque Spinola Bay in St Julian’s in Malta. Walking along the promenade one day the artist spotted the beautiful fishing boat in the foreground set against the waterfront bars and restaurants, inspiring her to paint the scene from this unusual point of view.
This painting depicts the Azure window, Gozo’s famous natural arch which collapsed in 2017. Vania hopes the painting will help preserve the memory of the natural wonder for years to come.
The Old City is a depiction of Malta’s former Capital, Mdina. When power was moved to Valletta in the Medieval period, Mdina’s streets became empty, giving rise to it becoming known as The Silent City. This large piece was painted in an Impressionistic style with fresh vibrant colours to capture springtime.
Space Girl was inspired by Princess Leia in the Star Wars movies, whose youth and vibrancy are captured in light, bright, painterly brushstrokes. Viewers can lose themselves in her distant gaze, her glassy green eyes staring into a faraway time and place.
In this visual metaphor the soaring eagle is a symbol of personal ascent and the pursuit of human goals. The artist believes that we become what we believe ourselves to be and as such, our dreams are within our grasp.
