The gift of choice

Allura Art presents a varied collection of original paintings, from landscapes and cityscapes, to abstracts and florals, painted by some of the leading artists in Malta and Gozo. So why not also give the gift of choice?
For the most memorable present, give the gift of art.
Allura offers gift cards in a range of values and in two different styles; one for Christmas and another for other special occasions.

Latest artwork
Here is a small selection of the new paintings to arrive in the Allura Art collection.
In Valletta by Night (above) Christopher Saliba depicts Malta’s capital city, which, with a footprint of just a quarter of a square mile, is the smallest capital city in the European Union. Also a UNESCO world heritage site, Malta’s ‘open air museum’ is famous for its many monuments and striking Baroque architecture. In his distinctive style and warm colour palette, Christopher Saliba captures Valletta’s bewitching illuminated skyline at night.
In The Capital City (above) artist Vania Goshe depicts the iconic dome of the Basilica of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, and to its left, the equally recognisable landmark of the spire of St. Paul's Anglican Pro-Cathedral. The architecture is bathed in the soft pink light which can so frequently be observed from this vantage point across the water, conveying the warm tranquility of the Mediterranean dusk.
Vania Goshe is pictured above during an episode of the second series of Allura’s Artist Secrets.
In Eagle Street, Valletta (above) artist Kevin Sciberras brings out the nostalgic charm of Eagle Street, a quiet, untouched back street, steeped in the history of the Maltese capital and the simplicity of how life used to be.
Siege Bell War Memorial by Steve Sciberras (above) commemorates those who fought for Malta during the second world war, when Malta became the most bombed place on Earth and many thousands of local people were killed. The Memorial overlooks Malta’s Grand Harbour and has become a favourite painting subject among artists, both because of its symbolism and its striking architecture. In Siege Bell War Memorial, the warm light of the overcast day lends an eerie solace to this sombre subject.
Plein-air oil piece April Sunday Morning (above) by Natasha Dadush was painted on location in one of the quiet side streets of Bahar ic-Caghaq. From her vantage point opposite, the artist captures the dusky facade of the historic Chapel of St John the Evangelist, warmly back-lit by the morning sun.
Poppy Fields (above) was created as the artist, Jo Dounis, moved into a textural period, experimenting with painting media to produce textures which are both implied i.e. which give the illusion of texture, and actual, whereby the media is manipulated to create a tactile, three-dimensional surface.
Artists use textures for various purposes. It can be a stylistic device or a substitute for natural textures, it can create an impression of rhythm or movement, or it can invoke the viewer's sense of touch by tempting us to physically touch the surface.
According to its creator, informal artist Rosette Bonello, Silk Road (above) represents the process of life where one has to trust the wait, embrace the uncertainty and enjoy the beauty of becoming, akin to the way the silk worm, after many days of transformation, love and patience, creates beautiful, delicate yet strong silk fibres.
Illusion of Emptiness (above) is a part of a new series by artist Bogdan Dyulgerov, entitled ‘All Visible and Invisible Worlds'. Besides the material world which we recognise and interpret with our senses, the subject-matter of this new body of work is the other worlds the artist perceives, which are invisible to him but nevertheless real and tangible.
