This taster includes new work by Dagmara Zaczeniuk, Rosette Bonello, Christine Porter Lofaro, Debbie Bonello, Fabio Borg, Christopher Saliba and Jo Dounis.
Since the artist prefers to leave it to the viewer to interpret her images, paintings by Dagmara Zaczeniuk are always enigmatic. Of her piece Moments in time she simply says “our life is made up of moments, and each of them is here and now.”

Rosette Bonello’s abstracts are delicate and emotional pieces created spontaneously and intuitively, often incorporating gold to represent beauty and soul. Speaking of Deep breath, she says “sometimes you just have to take a deep breath and let things go.”

In his piece Senglea 2020 Christopher Saliba uses complementary colours blue and orange to maximum effect to depict the bold structures of this magnificent Maltese location, capturing the warmth and richness of the light.
Xaghra 2020 bears a looser, more painterly approach, resulting in a more abstracted representation of the landscape.

Artist Christine Porter Lofaro is known for her hyperrealistic paintings. Describing her piece Mgarr Sunset, she says “on one of my usual walks, I was very much inspired by the village of Mgarr, which was transitioning from day into night. The sun has just set and the street lights were coming on. The chaos of the day was making way for a more peaceful and serene atmosphere.”

Debbie Bonello’s painting One step at a time forms part of a collection of work painted at Villa Frere, an 18th century neoclassical building in Pietà, Malta, with historic botanical gardens.

Maltese countryside is one of the rare landscapes by Fabio Borg which does not contain architecture. This slightly abstracted view shows the influence of Cubism, which is still strong in Maltese contemporary art.
