New paintings in the Allura Art Collection

In this latest blog post we present some of the new paintings which have recently been added to the Allura Art Collection.

These include new artwork by Bogdan Dyulgerov, Andrew Borg, Christopher Saliba, Dagmara Zaczeniuk, Rosette Bonello and Natasha Dadush.

Bogdan Dyulgerov

Living Thought-forms by Bogdan Dyulgerov

Bulgarian abstract artist Bogdan Dyulgerov sees himself as a musician. “I strive to create music for the eyes” he explains.

Ruthie Tucker, curator of Dyulgerov’s show at the Amsterdam Whitney Gallery in New York agrees. “Each color and form lyrically harmonizes and vibrates like chords in a concerto.”

Dyulgerov’s painting Living Thought-forms is an abstract impression of the idea that our thoughts are alive in another plane of existence.

Andrew Borg

Scirocco by Andrew Borg

Scirocco by Andrew Borg

Andrew Borg is best-known for landscapes in oils or watercolour capturing the Mediterranean light of his native Malta. His oeuvre is characterised by “mathematical elegance” and by tension between opposites. “I like extremes,” says Borg.

Borg’s painting Scirocco depicts a dim light over turbulent seas, a dark view of ominous weather, a sliver of light peeking through the clouds… Taking inspiration from JMW Turner who often used oil paint in a broad and translucent manner to create melancholy scenes of light and colour, Scirocco relays the drama of its subject in a similar style.

Christopher Saliba

Mgarr ix-Xini Valley by Christopher Saliba

Landscape painter Christopher Saliba has been described by art critic and writer Emmanuel Fiorentino as one of the “leading up-and-coming artists” of Gozo.

“I try to enhance the idea of the primordial and the divine qualities of nature.” says Saliba, “the grandeur of nature and feelings of awe, vastness and infinity.”

Distinct from the artist’s usual vibrant and radiant colour palette, Mgarr ix-Xini Valley is a monochrome painting suggesting a dramatic, deep and introspective journey.

Dagmara Zaczeniuk

Dualism II by Dagmara Zaczeniuk

Dualism II by Dagmara Zaczeniuk

Polish artist Dagmara Zaczeniuk is a sensitive observer of human emotions and an intuitive storyteller, requiring solitude to paint her enigmatic depictions of internal life.

Likening her paintings to children coming of age, she prefers them to speak for themselves, so viewers can form their own personal narrative. “I paint dreams,” she explains, “the dualism of things and the energy that flows behind everything.”

The artist usually paints images from her subconscious and invites the viewer to freely interpret Dualism II.

Rosette Bonello

The artistic practice of Maltese artist Rosette Bonello evolved symbiotically with her kindergarten teaching career. Witnessing the children’s uninhibited creativity led her to value self-expression and the pleasure of making over societal expectations of art.

Part of the Eden collection, Eden 2 invokes heaven as an ideal place, a peaceful mental state or the abundant natural beauty in the physical realm.

Natasha Dadush

The award-winning watercolours of Natasha Dadush form part of the collection at the International Watercolour Museum in Fabriano Italy. A recipient of its Daniel Smith Prize, the versatile Russian painter also works in oils, acrylics and gouache.

Natasha Dadush tackles her varied subjects ‘alla prima’ and directly from life. “I find endless inspiration in the landscapes and cityscapes of Malta, its great architecture and beautiful light” says Dadush.
