With the much anticipated arrival of 2021, Allura is pleased to present fresh new artwork from our talented artists. We can also now reveal the first new artist to join Allura Art this year.

Allura Art welcomes local painter Jo Dounis.

Self-taught Maltese artist Jo Dounis takes inspiration from the ocean views of her Mediterranean homeland.

“I love natural bodies of water and all the different blues in lakes, rivers, seas and oceans.”

Her painting is fuelled by a love of light and a fascination with how colours blend, form and flow. While many of her ethereal abstracts resemble intricate and undulating waterscapes viewed from above, others recall celestial gases and distant nebulae, swirling and unfurling in deepest, darkest space.

New artwork in the Allura Art collection

Our artists have been busy doing what they love. Here is a taste of the very latest work to be added to the Allura Art collection.

Mizieb by Debbie Bonello, a plein-air painting.

Mizieb by Debbie Bonello

A plein-air painting completed entirely on site, depicting two trees in an area which at the time was on the news because local hunters were being given free-reign to occupy public land.

Ta’ Sopu Tower by Christopher Saliba

Though the foreground is rich in details, the attention of the viewer is directed towards the distant tower. The colour scheme suggests a wintry scene; however, the red layer of underlying paint endows the painting with a special glow and vibrancy.

Bubu by Dagmara Zaczeniuk

Sometimes life is a joke. There is no deep meaning in this picture. Or maybe there is? You can guess.

Upcoming exhibitions

Until Allura can once again hold physical exhibitions in the manner we would like, we will be bringing you a series of online shows. We will announce the next exhibition very shortly, so watch this space. We promise to keep you in the loop with these events, as well as with new artists, new paintings and whatever else we have going on.

Happy new year!

Meanwhile, we would like to thank you for continuing to follow us and we wish you a very happy new year!
