Vittoriosa is an old fortified city on the south side of the Grand Harbour. Citta Vittoriosa is a depiction of one of the artist’s favourite scenes. The painting is dominated by the Collegiate Church of St. Lawrence and the church of the Annunciation, a landmark of historic importance run by the Dominican Order. The semi-abstract style, expressive brushstrokes and the balance between warm and cool colours which characterise this piece are typical of the artist’s signature, painterly style. Citta Vittoriosa was created for the second series of Artist Secrets to demonstrate the artist’s glazing technique using acrylics. To watch it being painted, click here.
